Alan Kennedy-Shaffer makes state Senate ballot
DENVER, April 20, 2018 -- Secretary of State Wayne Williams announced today that Democrat Alan Kennedy-Shaffer successfully petitioned onto the ballot in the Senate District 34 race.
Here are the numbers for Kennedy-Shaffer, who is running for the seat now held by Sen. Lucia Guzman, D-Denver, who is term limited:
Required: 1,000
Turned in: 1,405
Rejected: 402
Accepted: 1,003
The office is still reviewing signatures from another Senate District 34 candidate, Jonah Weiss.
Candidates who planned to get on the ballot through the petition process were allowed to begin collecting signatures on Jan. 16, and were required to turn them in by March 20. During the review process, some of those candidates got on the ballot through the assembly process and so their signature review was halted.
Besides Weiss, our office has only three candidate signatures left to announce. Democrats Brad Levin and Amy Padden are running for attorney general, while former Rep. Joel Judd is running for the seat he once held in House District 5.
Our office issues a news release after a candidate's signature review is completed, and also updates a list of petition candidates posted on the Secretary of State's web page. The June 26 primary ballot must be set by April 27.
