Secretary Griswold Joins Pueblo and Durango Business Leaders for Roundtable Discussion

Denver, April 15, 2022 - This week, Secretary of State Jena Griswold joined business leaders in Pueblo and Durango to discuss how the Secretary of State’s Office can continue to support Colorado’s businesses. During the discussion, Secretary Griswold discussed two bills currently being considered by the legislature that will reduce fees for Colorado’s small business owners and address business identity theft within the state’s online business registry. Both bills are part of Secretary Griswold’s priorities for the 2022 legislative session.

“We are working with the Colorado Assembly to further support small business owners by cutting common businesses fees to just $1 and establishing a process to address business identity theft,” said Secretary Griswold. “As Secretary of State I will also work to cut red tape and support Colorado’s small business owners.”

"It was great to see Secretary Griswold engage with our business community on some of the issues we face here in Pueblo,” said Duane Nava President and CEO of the Pueblo Chamber of Commerce. “I want to thank her office for reaching out to the Greater Pueblo Chamber of Commerce, bringing together Pueblo business leaders to discuss and listen to concerns and inform us on her upcoming initiatives.”

“The Durango Chamber of Commerce was pleased to host Secretary of State Griswold to meet with local business leaders at the Chamber,” said Jack Llewellyn, CEO of the Durango Chamber of Commerce.  “We believe it’s important for our business community to stay connected to the Front Range and state government so they understand the needs and challenges of our region.”

Secretary Griswold’s priorities for the 2022 Legislative Session to support Colorado’s businesses include:

  • Colorado Business Fee Relief Act, which will drastically reduce common filing fees to just $1, including fees for new business registrations, annual business renewals, registration of new trade names, renewal of trade names, and updates to business information. This fee relief is estimated to last from July 1st, 2022 through June 30th, 2023.
  • Combating Business Identity Theft Act, which allows the Secretary of State’s Office and Attorney General’s Office to field complaints of fraudulent documents filed with the Department of State, investigate them, and remedy records. This legislation will also establish a working group with business community members and law enforcement to look into additional measures to address fraudulent business filings.
