Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold Joins Bipartisan Secretaries of State in Urging Congressional Support of Infrastructure Funding for Elections

Denver, July 1, 2021 - Secretary of State Jena Griswold has joined a bipartisan letter from Secretaries of State from across the nation requesting Congress include elections in its upcoming infrastructure funding package.  The funding would be instrumental in supporting local and state election offices.

“The COVID-19 pandemic put our election infrastructure to the test, illustrating the need for continued funding in order to keep these vital systems running securely,” said Secretary Griswold. “I’m proud to join my fellow Secretaries of State in asking Congress to include election infrastructure as part of any upcoming infrastructure package.  Every voter across the nation deserves, safe, secure, and accessible elections.”

The letter, addressed to Speaker Pelosi, Leader McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader Schumer, and Senate Minority Leader McConnell, outlines a 10-year plan in which $20 billion would be earmarked for local and state election offices to replace outdated equipment, update voter registration and election management systems, and increase physical and technological security measures, among other improvements.

The complete letter can be accessed here and is co-signed by Katie Hobbs, Arizona Secretary of State; Denise Merrill, Connecticut Secretary of State; Shenna Bellows, Maine Secretary of State; Jocelyn Benson, Michigan Secretary of State; Steve Simon, Minnesota Secretary of State; Maggie Toulouse Oliver, New Mexico Secretary of State; Veronica Degraffenreid, Acting Secretary of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; Jim Condos, Vermont Secretary of State; Kim Wyman, Washington Secretary of State.
