Deadline is Today for Already Registered Voters To Change Affiliation for the Presidential Primary
Denver, February 3, 2020 – Voters already registered with a party who wish to change major party affiliation or register as unaffiliated must do so by midnight tonight in order to receive the corresponding ballot for the March 3 Super Tuesday Presidential Primary. Those who are registered as a Democrat or Republican will receive the primary ballot for their party.
Midnight tonight is also the deadline for unaffiliated voters to select a party preference before primary ballots are mailed. Otherwise, unaffiliated voters will receive ballots from both major parties, but can only vote and return one. To change party affiliation or update other registration information, click here.
“With ballots going out next week, Coloradans have an opportunity to vote before many of the nation’s primaries,” said Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold. “This is the first Colorado Presidential Primary in 20 years, and is an incredible opportunity for voters in our state to help determine the 2020 presidential candidates.”
Ballots will be sent by county clerks next week. Voters will also have the opportunity to vote in person beginning on February 24 and continuing through Election Day on March 3 until 7 p.m. Colorado also offers same-day voter registration, allowing eligible Coloradans to register and vote on Election Day.
This is also the first year that 17 year-olds will be able to participate in Colorado’s two primaries, the Presidential and the State Primary taking place June 30, provided they turn 18 by the General Election on November 3. Colorado is one of just 17 states that allow this added level of accessibility.
