Secretary Griswold Appoints New Members to ERTB
Denver, Feb. 25, 2019 – Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold has appointed two new members to the Electronic Recording Technology Board [ERTB], Larimer County Clerk Angela Myers and Jefferson County Clerk George Stern. The ERTB’s mission is to develop, maintain, improve, replace, or preserve land records systems in our state. The board, established in 2016, has been successful in administering grants to counties to ensure county clerks are able to improve and maintain property records, marriage licenses and other important documents.
Since taking office in 2013, Larimer County Clerk Angela Myers and her 84 employees have prioritized replacing the county’s recording systems in order to safeguard the foundation of county government. She demonstrates her commitment to the citizens of Larimer County by delivering accurate and timely services, ensuring the integrity of secure and verifiable elections, and providing the attention and respect that citizen customers deserve.
"Quality recording operations are fundamental for successful commerce," said Myers. "I am honored to serve on this important board to the benefit of county recording processes across the state, and I look forward to the many successes we will champion in the years ahead."
Jefferson County Clerk George Stern will also serve on the board starting this month. He is dedicated to creating a more modern office by harnessing technology to improve the experience of constituents, making services simpler to use and available more often and in more places; using technology and data to give the best information when making decisions.
"I am honored by this opportunity," Stern said. "The ERTB board plays an important role in helping counties invest in new and better technologies, which is a priority of mine as Jefferson County Clerk."
The ERTB was created in 2016, after a working group made up of real estate, title, lending, and legal professionals, as well as county subject-matter experts conducted an evaluation of Colorado’s recording systems. In 2018, the ERTB administered $1,136,100.49 in grant funds to twenty counties. There is $2.5 million available for future grants. The 2018 annual report of the ERTB is available here.
"The Electronic Recording Technology Board helps Colorado’s counties make important strides in technology to increase transparency and public access to information. Angela Myers and George Stern will be wonderful additions to this important board to continue this important work," said Secretary of State Jena Griswold.
Kit Carson County Clerk Susan Corliss was elected Chair on Friday at the most recent ERTB meeting. She has served on the board since its creation in 2016.
"It has been a rewarding journey to be part of the Electronic Recording Technology Board since its beginning. The process of creating by-laws, grant guideline, application, and scoring rubric, while serving on various committees with the other board members, had been a learning experience as well." said Corliss. "I am looking forward to helping the board continue to set high standards plus award grant money to improve the electronic recording technology for the counties that are unable to fund these projects themselves."
The ERTB is made up of 9 members. The Secretary of State is appointing people to these two seats because they were left vacant by former Arapahoe County Clerk Matt Crane and former Adams County Clerk Stan Martin.
