Voter centers open today in Colorado
DENVER, Oct. 22, 2018 -- Today is the first day that Colorado's 64 counties opened Voter Service and Polling Centers where residents can vote in person, drop off a ballot and register to vote.
The centers will be open through Election Day. All voters who vote in person must provide identification. Voters can still get a mail ballot sent to them by registering or updating their address at www.GoVoteColorado.com or by texting "CO" to "28683" (2VOTE). Voters can also check the status their ballot at the same site.
Colorado has 3.2 million active voters, most of whom vote by mail. Of the 2.8 million voters who participated in the 2016 general election, 93 percent either mailed in their ballot, dropped it off at a 24-hour ballot box or dropped it off at a voting center. Seven percent voted in person.
"There's a reason I say that Colorado is the Burger King of elections because you really can have it your way in the Centennial State," Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams said.
Our office this week will begin posting ballot return numbers each weekday. To receive the reports, sign up here. Today also is the first day that county clerks can begin counting ballots, although no results may be disclosed until after 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 6. Oct. 15 was the first day county clerks could begin mailing ballots to in-state voters. Ballots to overseas and military voters went out last month.
