Secretary Williams participates in U.S. Army War College Commandant’s National Security Program
DENVER, July 28, 2017 – Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams participated in the U.S. Army War College annual Commandant’s National Security Program this week to discuss how national security relates to election issues, among other topics.
Williams was joined by nearly 70 business, government, academic and community leaders selected from across the country to complete a week-long seminar as part of the capstone event of the Army War College’s rigorous two-year graduate program in Strategic Studies. Participants were provided with optional readings and encouraged to enjoy a “comfortable, open, free and frank exchange of thoughts, ideas, and opinions,” according to the U.S. Army War College website.
Senior leaders of the U.S. Armed Forces presented on and facilitated discussion around various issues of significance to the nation’s security. For his contributions and participation in this program, Williams became a member of the USAWC Seminar 16 which is comprised of Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force officers at the rank of colonel or lieutenant colonel. Williams was also invited to share perspectives, background and experiences in the Commandant’s National Security Program.
The seminar also included featured speakers Lt. Gen. Gary Cheek, Director Army Staff; Dr. Scott Harold, Associate Director of the RAND Center for Asia-Pacific Policy; Ms. Amanda Kadlec, Policy Analyst for RAND Corporation; Mr. Paul Sagan, Executive in Residence for General Catalyst Partners: Business Innovation; and Ambassador James Jeffery, former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq and Turkey.
