National Disability Voter Registration week kicks off in Colorado
DENVER, July 17, 2017 -- Today is the start of National Disability Voter Registration Week, which includes two events, one in Grand Junction and one in Denver.
"Colorado is proud to make voting easy and accessible for the disabled community," said Secretary of State Wayne Williams.
RevUP -- Register! Educate! Vote! Use your Power! -- is nationally organized by the American Association of People with Disabilities. In Colorado, the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition and Disability Law Colorado are the registered supporters for the registration initiative.
"It is vital that Coloradans with disabilities vote," said Dawn Howard, with the Colorado Cross Disability Coalition. "We need to vote for legislators who will listen to our stories and concerns. We also need to vote for amendments, which will benefit our lives."
Voter registration events:
Disability Law Colorado: Registration will be from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday at the Mesa County Central Library in Grand Junction, 443 N. Sixth Street.
The Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition: Registration will be from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday. Members of the coalition will be available to help individuals with disabilities register at the Atlantis Community Picnic., 201 Cherokee St., in Denver.
"Please join us in this very important push to make sure that every eligible voter in the disability community is registered to vote,” said Jennifer Levin, a senior attorney with Disability Law Colorado and Vote! Program coordinator. "Make The Disability Vote Count!"
