Secretary of State to honor Denver attorney John E. Moye
DENVER, Dec. 23, 2015 -- Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams on Tuesday will present an award to Denver attorney John E. Moye for his outstanding service and dedication to the Secretary of State’s office over the years.
Moye will receive a NASS Medallion Award, which are presented by secretaries of state to individuals or groups who have furthered the mission of the National Association of Secretaries of State, or NASS, in one of several areas. That includes elections, civic education, service to state government and a commitment to giving.
Moye proved instrumental in helping the office transition after the death of Secretary of State Vikki Buckley in 1999 and the appointment of Arapahoe County Clerk Donetta Davidson to the post. Since that time, Moye, a founding partner of the Moye White law firm, has chaired the secretary’s Business Advisory Committee, which provides critically important expertise and advice to the secretary in matters involving business and non-profit filings.
"John Moye has been a steadfast and effective advocate for six secretaries of state," Williams said.
Moye also served under secretaries Gigi Dennis, Mike Coffman, Bernie Buescher and Scott Gessler.
"John is very deserving of this award," said Mike Hardin, director of Business & Licensing for the secretary of state. "His support and guidance on business issues has contributed greatly to making our office a national leader."
Davidson will speak at the award ceremony at 10 a.m. Dec. 29 in the Aspen Room at the Colorado Secretary of State’s office, 1700 Broadway. Davidson has decades of experience in elections, including serving as a commissioner on the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and executive director of the Colorado County Clerks Association. Most recently, she served on the Pilot Election Review Committee, which advised Secretary Williams on selecting a voting-equipment vendor.
Moye is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and Cornell University Law School. He has held the position of president of the Colorado Bar Association, written a dozen books and served as chairman of many Denver organizations. He has been a faculty member of Southern Methodist University and the University of Denver College of Law. The University of Denver bestowed on him an honorary doctorate in law for his dedication to legal education.
The NASS Medallion is just the latest honor for Moye. In 2005, he received an Award of Merit, the Colorado Bar Association’s highest honor. In the 1980s, both the Colorado and Denver bar associations named him the Outstanding Young Lawyer of the Year.
