Milestone reached: Colorado Secretary of State business registrations top 600,000
DENVER, Oct. 30, 2015 -- For the first time ever, the number of businesses registered and in good standing with the Colorado Secretary of State broke 600,000.
The actual number of businesses was 600,270, which the office's highly lauded Business and Licensing Division hit on Wednesday. Two years ago, businesses in good standing hit 521,795 as of Oct. 31. At this same time last year, the division recorded 557,815 such entities. Businesses retain a status of good standing by filing the appropriate paperwork in a timely manner with the Business and Licensing Division.
Among the reasons for the growth is the ease of using the Colorado Secretary of State’s online filing system, which makes the process quick, easy and affordable.
"I'm excited to witness Colorado's entrepreneurial spirit," said Secretary of State Wayne Williams. "We're happy to help people achieve their dreams. And to do that we are continually looking at common-sense solutions to improve the experience that businesses have with this office."
The latest improvement was implemented earlier this month. In addition to certificates of good standing, businesses can now download online certificates for either single or multiple documents, trade name certificates and certificates of existence. The best part: all online certificates are free.
Since these new options were added on Oct. 20, an average of 500 certificates of this type have been downloaded per day.
Customer feedback has been very positive:
- "I was EXTREMELY happy that you are now doing online certified documents. In the past, I had to pay and wait for you to get them to me. Now I can hop onto the site and take care of this instantly! In fact, I was on the site to get certified copies TWICE this week - Kudos!!!!"
- "I am very impressed with the FREE online certifications Colorado has rolled out. I gave it a test and it is very easy and fast. I think it's great that you all are able to offer that to the public for free."
