Williams celebrates passage of military voting bill
Denver, May 28, 2015 - Colorado Secretary of State Wayne Williams attended the signing of HB15-1130 on Wednesday in Colorado Springs. The legislation, which Williams strongly supported as it made its way through the legislature, expands voting opportunities for overseas military voters. Protecting and facilitating voting by overseas military personnel is one of Williams’ priorities as Secretary of State.
"I am happy to see this bipartisan bill signed by our Governor," said Williams. "The men and women who protect our right to vote now have additional opportunities to practice this right themselves."
The bill brings the municipal election code into closer harmony with existing laws that govern statewide elections, allowing out of state military members the same amount of time to receive and cast ballots in municipal elections as currently provided in statewide and federal elections. The legislation is a bipartisan effort sponsored in the House by Reps. Dan Nordberg of Colorado Springs and Su Ryden of Aurora. The bill was sponsored in the Senate by Senators Owen Hill of Colorado Springs and Leroy Garcia of Pueblo.
