Gessler releases third quarter economic indicators report
Forecast predicts year-over-year employment growth for fourth quarter
Denver, November 14, 2012 - Colorado Secretary of State Scott Gessler today released the Quarterly Business and Economic Indicators Report for the third quarter of 2012. The report predicts sustained employment growth through the end of the year.
"The third quarter data indicates continued employment growth through the end of the year," Secretary Gessler said. "Both new business filings and renewals for existing business were up compared to the third quarter of last year."
This is the third quarterly report released by the Secretary of State's office since May of this year. The report found a strong correlation between new entity filings and total nonfarm employment. The forecast predicts year-over-year employment growth in the fourth quarter of 2012. Third quarter figures showed new entity filings have increased and existing entity renewals have started to rebound from a drop in the second quarter. Today’s release covers filing data from July through September.
The Quarterly Business and Economic Indicators report is published by the Business Research Division at the Leeds School of Business, University of Colorado Boulder, using data from the Secretary of State’s central business registry. Following the close of the quarter, the data is analyzed and the report prepared over the next month. The report is then released on the second Wednesday of the following month. The report covering fourth quarter 2012 will be released on February 13, 2013.
