Gessler announces new online filing option with “Fee Holiday”
Businesses filing Foreign Entity Authority Statements will enjoy 3-month fee reduction
Denver, August 17, 2011 – Secretary of State Scott Gessler announced that businesses formed outside of Colorado looking to do business here will see their filing fees drop. For three months starting September 1, the Secretary of State will temporarily reduce these fees from $125 to $1.
"My aim with this initiative is to send a message that Colorado is making bold strides to create a more-user friendly, intuitive system that saves our customers time and money, while keeping our fees among the lowest in the country," Gessler said.
As one of the last paper filings still required by the office, these forms typically required three to five days for staff to process and were plagued by rejections and filing errors. The online modernization project languished for years before being completed in June.
"Coming into office, I heard loud and clear from many business leaders that completing this project was priority number one," Gessler said. "We put our heads down and dedicated the necessary resources to modernize this filing option, and I’m proud to say that we delivered."
The Secretary of State’s office is almost exclusively funded through business filing fees. But Gessler says his office can absorb the fee reduction and fee holidays have successfully launched online filings in the past.
