Secretary of State Gigi Dennis Launches "Vote in Honor of a Veteran" Campaign
Denver CO, September 11, 2006 – “American forces are fighting terrorism worldwide, including Iraq and Afghanistan, where they work daily to give those fledgling democracies a chance to grow and survive,” Secretary of State Gigi Dennis said today launching the 2006 “Vote in Honor of a Veteran Campaign”.
“It is fitting that as our soldiers uphold the elected governments of the Iraq and Afghan citizens that we remember and honor their service in protecting our own democracy throughout history,” Dennis said.
Established in 2002, the “Vote in Honor of a Veteran” program allows Colorado voters to honor those who have served and those who continue to serve this county in military service.
“Many veterans have sacrificed to preserve our right to cast a ballot and live in a free society”, said Secretary Dennis. “To help celebrate our right to vote and show our appreciation for those who serve in the United States military and help maintain our rights, I proudly launch the 2006 Vote in Honor of a Veteran Program.”
On General Election Day, Nov. 7, 2006, Dennis urged residents to Vote in Honor of a Veteran by wearing a personalized button to the polls declaring appreciation for the specific contributions of a particular U.S. Service Member or Veteran.
