Election Day Update - August 8, 2006 2:15 pm
Denver CO, August 8, 2006 – The Colorado Secretary of State’s office reports the statewide Primary Election is running smoothly, with only minor issues arising that are common in any election.
“Overall the election across the state is running very smooth,” Secretary of State Gigi Dennis said. “Some minor issues cropped up early this morning as election judges opened the polls, however those issues are typical with any election,” Dennis added.
As voters leave work to go to the polls, voters are reminded to bring a picture ID or other acceptable form of identification. Polls close at 7:00 p.m. Voters in line by 7:00 p.m. will be allowed to cast their ballot.
At this time, the Secretary of State’s office does not have any firm voter turnout numbers. Final voter turnout figures will be compiled after the election.
In Colorado, results for each county are tabulated by the county clerks and results are reported to the media by those offices.
The staff of the Secretary of State’s office will be working throughout the evening to provide advice and support to the county clerks.
