Truden Recall Election Date Set
Denver, October 17, 2005 - Today Governor Bill Owens selected Tuesday, December 13, 2005 as the date for the recall election for the Ninth Judicial District Attorney. The Secretary of State's office has notified the County Clerk and Recorders, incumbent, petitioner, and candidates that the date has been selected.
Pursuant to C.R.S. 1-12-116, if a majority of those voting on the question of the recall of any incumbent from office vote "no", the incumbent will remain in office and if a majority vote "yes", the incumbent must be removed from office upon the qualification of the successor.
Pursuant to C.R.S. 1-12-118, the election of the successor must be held at the same time as the recall election. Candidates get on the ballot by petition. Each candidate must obtain 1,000 valid signatures in order to be certified to the ballot. Candidates must submit to the Secretary of State their petition format for approval. Once approved, the candidate will have until November 1 to submit their nomination petition to the Secretary of State.
The County Clerk and Recorders for Garfield, Pitkin, and Rio Blanco counties will begin preparing for the upcoming recall election. Only registered electors is the Ninth Judicial District (Garfield, Pitkin, and Rio Blanco counties) will be eligible to vote on this recall.
The Secretary of State's office must certify the official election results of the recall no later than January 6, 2006.
