President Bush Nominates Secretary of State Donetta Davidson to be a Member of the Federal Election Assistance Commission
Denver, July 22, 2005 - Late yesterday afternoon President George W. Bush announced his intention to nominate Secretary of State Donetta Davidson to serve as a Commissioner with the Election Assistance Commission (EAC).
Over the next few weeks, Secretary Davidson will be preparing for the U.S. Senate confirmation hearing. No date for the confirmation hearing has been scheduled at this time. If Davidson is confirmed, she will serve the remainder of a four-year term expiring December 12, 2007.
"It is truly an honor to be considered for this position," Davidson said. "I love serving as Secretary of State, but this appointment is an opportunity for me to make a lasting impact on elections for the United States."
The EAC was established by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA) and serves as a national clearinghouse and resource for election information. Currently the EAC is reviewing standards and procedures with respect to the administration of elections at the state level.
