Election Night Procedures
Some additional information and dates to remember
Denver, November 1, 2004 - On Election night, you may obtain unofficial election results from each County Clerk and Recorder. Secretary of State press contacts will be available at the above mentioned phone numbers through the day and evening.
- About 50% of registered voters have already voted either early or absentee. The Secretary of State projects a voter turnout of 70-75%.
- As of Friday, October 28 - 489,673 absentee ballots have been returned and 375,138 people have taken part in early voting which ended Friday.
- UOCAVA (Military and Overseas Voters) ballots have been extended for receipt 10 days after the election.
Here is how the registrations numbers break out by party affiliation as of October 27, 2004:
- Republican 1,125,374
- Democrat 947,866
- Unaffiliated 1,028,886
- Libertarian 6,078
- Green 5,279
- Other 1,083

- November 14, 2004 - Last day for verification and counting of provisional ballots to be completed.
- November 18, 2004 – Last day for county clerks to transmit returns to the Secretary of State.
- November 24, 2004 – Last day for the Secretary of State to compile and total returns from all counties and order appropriate recounts, if any.
- November 29, 2004 - Last day an interested party may request a recount of the results of the General Election at their own expense. Also last day a ballot issue proponent or opponent may request a recount of the results of the General Election at their own expense.
- December 10, 2004 - Last day to complete a mandatory or requested recount.
