William E. Sherratt Jr. May 7, 2024

I am voting in honor of my father, William E. Sherratt Jr. My father was the epitome of what a man, father, husband, and an American should be. My father never missed an opportunity to vote for what he thought was right. He fought for his country during Vietnam and even though when he returned home he were savagly disrespected, to put it mildly, he would have done it all over again. He worked two jobs for the majority of his adult life, so that he could provide for his family and he never had a problem with helping his neighbor, if they needed it. He never complained once about his time overseas, he never uttered an unhappy sigh for all of the hours he put in each week. With all of that on his plate, he still found time to teach me everything I know about how to be a man, father, husband, and an American. I am so proud of my father, I love him and I miss him every day. I can only hope that I make him proud to be my dad.

So He & his father lived in the camps until they could get passage to S.America, where my Dad lived until 17 [still never speaking English yet. My father & his Dad went through great LEGAL lengths to become an Americans. When he did get to come to America, he took night school classes to learn english and assimilate. At age 20 he was able to join the Army. Speaking 6 languages, his Army enlisted career took him to Europe. While stationed in France, he met my Mother they married in 1959 [raising 6 kids together & are still married today], it wasn't until 1963 after much diligence and desire, he, my Mother, their 3 children were able to become US Citizens. I was born in 1963 on an Army Base in Germany where my father was stationed...the first in my family to be born an American! My parents had 2 more kids after me-one more in Germany and the last of the 6 Lipphardt kids was born back in the states [KS] while my father was deployed to Vietnam.
