April 10, 2020 - The Internal Revenue Service announced yesterday that it would extend the filing deadline for nonprofits and foundations to file their annual information returns (Form 990s) due to COVID19. Nonprofits with a deadline of April 1 to July 14 now have until July 15, 2020.
The extension is available automatically, so organizations will not need to file an extension form, unless they need an extension beyond July 15, in which case they will need to file the usual extension form.
Please see the complete text of the IRS Announcement (PDF).
The Secretary of State earlier provided more time for organizations that solicit contributions in Colorado to renew their registration and file solicitation campaign financial reports. Under the rule adopted on April 3, 2020 (PDF), reports and filings that were or are due to the Secretary of State between April 1, 2020 and July 15, 2020 are now due by August 15, 2020, without the need to file an extension.
