Help with Business Information Survey Searches

How do I search by survey information?

Mark the categories that you want to include in your search, then click on "Search".

What kinds of results will I see?

Foreign and domestic entities who have survey information on file that matches your search criteria will be displayed.

Only entities who match all of your choices, and one NAICS code, if applicable, will be displayed.

For example, if you search by "Female" and "Asian," then your results will only include entities who have marked both of those choices.

If you search by "Male" and NAICS codes 123456 and 654321, your results will include entities who have marked "Male" and entered NAICS code 123456, or that have marked Male and entered NAICS code 654321.

A business down the street from me is owned by a male, but the business didn't come up when I searched by "Male." Why not?

Providing this information to our office is voluntary. Entities may choose not to fill out the survey or provide information. Even if an entity has some of this information on file with us, they may have chosen not to answer some of the questions. For example, the business down the street may have filled out "Native American" on the survey form, but left the gender blank.

What are NAICS codes?

NAICS stands for "North American Industry Classification System." NAICS codes classify the type of economic activity that the entity engages in. For example, an entity that lists the code 441110 is classified as a new-car dealer. NAICs codes and more information can be found on the NAICS Association website.

NAICs codes may be self-assigned by the entity. Codes can also be assigned to entities by various agencies, such as the U.S. Census Bureau. There is no central government agency that assigns, monitors, or approves NAICs codes.
